Lexington-based Tempur Sealy International Inc., which makes, markets and distributes mattresses, foundations and pillows, said Thursday that it plans to open a manufacturing and distribution center in Plainfield, Ind.
The expansion will create as many 300 new jobs by 2015, the company said in a news release.
The new 600,000 square-foot leased complex in Plainfield will handle manufacturing and distribution for the Tempur Sealy brands, in addition to being a distribution center for Tempur-Pedic. Plainfield is a southwestern suburb of Indianapolis.
It will be Tempur Sealy's first combination assembly and distribution center, according to the news release.
"Indiana offers businesses a climate for continued growth, with companies like Tempur Sealy taking notice and investing in the Hoosier State," Indiana Gov. Mike Pence said.
Tempur Sealy International Inc., which acquired Sealy Corp. in 2013, is the world's largest bedding provider, with brands including Tempur, Tempur-Pedic, Sealy, Sealy Posturepedic, Optimum, and Stearns & Foster.
