Cabela's, a major retailer of outdoors products, is seeking zoning approval for a store in Lexington.
Lawyers for Cabela's, an outfitter that specializes in hunting, fishing and other outdoor sports, have filed an application for a zone change for 14.82 acres of property near the intersection of Polo Club and Man o' War boulevards for a prospective store. The site is east of Interstate 75, near Costco.
The application asks that the zone be changed from a transition area to a community center.
Bill Lear Jr., a lawyer for developers A&M Hamburg LLC, said in a letter to city officials that Cabela's "has only two stores in Kentucky and has selected the subject property as its priority location for the only store it plans to establish in this part of the state."

Lear and representatives from Cabela's did not immediately return calls asking for comment.
Cabela's application for a zoning change will come before the Urban County Planning Commission on Thursday. If the planning commission gives its approval, the zone change must also be approved by the Urban County Council.
Bill Sallee, the city's planning director, said city officials have not received any objections to the project. The neighboring properties are largely commercial. Costco, a wholesaler, opened near the property in October 2013.
Cabela's is asking for the change to a community zone and a variance to allow for the construction of a retail store and for the construction of a smaller, mixed-use retail space. The application does not give details about the square footage of the store.
