North Lime Coffee & Donuts will open a second shop soon in Stonewall Shopping Center, at Clays Mill Road and Wellington Way. The 1,673-square-foot building was formerly Stanley J's deli.
The mixed-use shopping center also now has a Bargain Hunt discount store, a Rite Aid, a Peoples Exchange Bank branch and Bluegrass Baking Co.
"We just love that area and just wanted to have a second store on the south side of Lexington," said Joe Ross, one North Lime's owners. "It's a great neighborhood ... . We're just trying to bring doughnuts to the people."
North Lime's biggest seller is its fresh plain glazed doughnut, he said, but quite a following has developed for the maple bacon doughnut and, lately, a pulled-pork doughnut, using local barbecue.
Never miss a local story.
Ross said the name would stay North Lime even on the south side.
"Not going to change a thing. More of the same, just on the other side of town," Ross said. And the owners probably won't stop there: He said they would like to open more stores.
"We have a lot of fans in Louisville, so maybe there," he said. "I think we have people from all walks of life visit us. It's appealing to everybody. We bring the best of both worlds: a traditional bakery and a high-end espresso bar."
An opening date has not been set for the Stonewall site, but Ross said he hoped it would be soon. "We're in there working every day right now," he said.
