■ Dialysis Clinic, Kidney Health Alliance of Kentucky and Kroger have received the 2015 Bluegrass Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Community Service Award. The recipients were honored at the 2015 Bluegrass Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Seminar on Feb. 7 in Lexington. The Bluegrass Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Community Service Award is presented annually to organizations that have promoted or enhanced the nutritional well-being of their community.
All three entities collaborated to conduct five kidney grocery shopping tours at the Richmond Road and Beaumont Kroger in Lexington in 2013 and 2014. Supermarket dietitians and a renal dietitian conducted the tours, which helped participants find kidney-friendly foods and products by learning to read labels. The kidney shopping tours were voted 2013 Best Overall Dialysis Clinic Inc. Purpose Project. The tours were videotaped and are available at the Kidney Health Alliance web site at Khaky.org and on YouTube by searching kidney smart shopping.
