Lafayette Galleries, a downtown fixture since the 1950s, is closing its store at the Lexington Center shops at the end of February.
Paul Barrett, who owns the business with his wife Sydney, said the business will continue as a website, Lafayettegalleries.net, though the website has not been built yet.
Lafayette Galleries opened in 1957 at 210 East Main Street next to the Kentucky Theater and the old Lafayette Hotel. In 1976, the store moved to The Shops at Lexington Center as one of the original tenants.
Lafayette Galleries sells goods including Heritage Irish Crystal, Reed & Barton Silver and Royal Copenhagen porcelain.
Never miss a local story.
Paul Barrett said he and his wife no longer have time to maintain a physical store location.
