A Cup of Common Wealth was named the 2016 Small Business of the Year at Thursday’s Commerce Lexington Salute to Small Business Awards luncheon.
A Cup of Common Wealth, owned by Salvador Sanchez, was chosen for the honor from six category winners. The company will now have the opportunity to be considered for state and national recognition through the U.S. Small Business Administration.
Opened in 2013 at 105 Eastern Avenue, A Cup of Common Wealth has become “much more than a coffee shop” in downtown Lexington, according to a new release from Commerce Lexington.
“It’s a place to celebrate people, share stories, make new friends, and find a sense of community. The shop’s Pay It Forward Board provides customers the opportunity to buy a future drink for anyone to redeem at any time.
Never miss a local story.
“Since its opening, A Cup of Common Wealth has stayed true to its mission to ‘Embrace Community. Serve Others. Create Culture.’ The staff has grown from just two people to a staff of a dozen, while sales have doubled, new strategies were implemented, and adjustments have been made to the business model.”
A Cup of Common Wealth won Commerce Lexington’s Minority Business Award before being named small business of the year. Other category award winners included:
▪ Business Success Award: MCF Advisors LLC
▪ Green Initiative Award: Lexington Habitat for Humanity
▪ Legacy Award: Plastic Surgeons of Lexington
▪ Nonprofit Award: Living Arts & Science Center
