National Geographic Traveler magazine has named Kentucky's Bourbon Trail one of its best spring trips for 2013.
Other trips cited include the Hatfield-McCoy Trails in West Virginia; the Holi Festival in Jaipur, India; and Tulpenfestival, or tulip festival, in the Netherlands.
The Bourbon Trail includes seven distilleries that produce about 95 percent of the world's bourbon: Four Roses and Wild Turkey in Lawrenceburg, Heaven Hill in Bardstown, Jim Beam in Clermont, Maker's Mark in Loretto, Woodford Reserve in Versailles and Town Branch in Lexington.
The magazine advises travelers to not miss the chocolate-covered bourbon balls and to make time to watch the early-morning racehorse training sessions at Keeneland.
They're also tipped off by the magazine on Woodford County accommodations and a pronunciation key: "Spend a night at the Woodford Inn in Versailles, where the Friday night fish fry includes live bluegrass music on the lawn.
