Eddie Russell, son of legendary Wild Turkey master distiller Jimmy Russell, has been named master distiller.
Jimmy Russell announced the promotion "with great pride" Monday in a news release: "After 34 years, I think he's finally earned it, but that doesn't mean I'm going to go any easier on him — or that I'm going anywhere anytime soon. Eddie and I will work side by side as the industry's only father-son master distillers."
Eddie Russell came to work at the distillery on June 5, 1981, rising through the ranks to join his father at the still. Last year, he created Wild Turkey Diamond, in honor of his father's 60th year at the Lawrenceburg distillery, which is owned by Campari.
This year, his first creation in his new role will be released.

Eddie Russell also will take on even more overseas appearances.
"Eddie will also be out on the road a lot more, sharing travel duties with me to act as an ambassador for bourbon around the world," Jimmy Russell said. "And, of course, you'll be seeing him at the annual WhiskeyFests, Tales of the Cocktail, Portland Cocktail Week and in other major U.S. cities spreading the gospel of Wild Turkey."
