Big Blue Nation has something to look forward to the first weekend of April in addition to the Final Four: The Maker's Mark bottle featuring Adolph Rupp.
The label, which received federal approval earlier this month, will show the legendary University of Kentucky men's basketball coach on a basketball-shaped medallion, a blue wax seal embossed with "UK" and a blue ribbon with "National Champion 1948, 1949, 1951 and 1958" on it.
The bottle will go on sale about April 3, in time for the signing April 10 at Keeneland on Maker's Mark 46 Mile Day.
Maker's Mark, Keeneland and UK have yet to announce who will be signing, but they promise something big.
"As a fan, I believe it will be the most exciting lineup of signers that we've ever had for any of the bottles, and there are 19," Maker's Mark chief operating officer Rob Samuels said. "There will be multiple signers, and they are all historic, iconic figures that have an association with Coach Rupp. And they're all very excited to come back and help celebrate Coach Rupp."
The bottle will be the first in a five-year campaign to raise $4 million for the University of Kentucky Center for Academic and Tutorial Services, a support program for student athletes.
The center in Memorial Coliseum is to be expanded, with an additional site in the new football training complex next to Commonwealth Stadium.
