A rally for peace in Syria will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza in downtown Lexington.
The rally is being coordinated by the Muslim Students Association at the University of Kentucky, said Aqsa Qureshi, vice president of the association.
"We're just trying to raise awareness," Qureshi said. "We're trying to show solidarity with the Syrian people, and support the Syrian community in Lexington."
The rally is expected to draw 30 to 40 students, but others are welcome.
Syria has seen nearly a year of violent oppression by the government of President Bashar al-Assad. This week Syrian security forces continued shelling the city of Homs.
