Christopher Kerns, 29, of Mount Vernon man died Friday morning when the pickup truck he was driving was struck by a train on Twin Tunnel Road in Rockcastle County, according to Kentucky State Police in London. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation showed that Kerns failed to stop at a railroad crossing and drove into the path of a CSX locomotive, police said.
The train hit the truck's passenger side and pushed the truck down the train tracks until the truck came to rest against a rail tunnel, police said.
The crash occurred just before 9:45 a.m. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors in the incident, police said.
