A Laurel County mother was arrested after her 3-year-old daughter was found walking along a road alone on Sunday morning.
Three passersby called the sheriff's office at 10:49 a.m. after stopping to care for the child, who they had found walking on Rooks Branch Road, 11 miles south of London, according to a news release from the Laurel County sheriff's office. One of the citizens told a sheriff's deputy that the girl, who said her name was Kaylee, had been seen walking down West City Dam Road earlier.
There was "a concentrated effort to find someone who knew the child," according to the news release, before the girl's mother, Lillian Jordan, 20, of Keavy, came to the Bait Bucket on Ky. 312, where the child had been taken, the release stated.
The sheriff's office said that Jordan had been asleep in the house and that Kaylee got out and wandered away alone. They said that Jordan had not called 911 to try to find her.
Social services workers placed the girl with her grandmother.
Jordan was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor.
