The parents of a young child have sued the Clark County Public Schools for $5 million, alleging that educators put their daughter in "time out" in a dark, padded room.
The incident allegedly occurred in February 2010 at the Fannie Bush Elementary School in Winchester, according to the suit filed in Clark Circuit Court last week by Matthew and Lindsay Lucas.
They charge in the suit that their daughter, then in kindergarten, was placed in the small room for six minutes as punishment. The space had one window and a chair, according to the suit.
The Lucases, who now live in another county, allege that their child suffered mental and emotional anguish as a result of the experience.

In addition to money, they are seeking a court order prohibiting the use of seclusion rooms in the future.
