Lexington’s summer youth employment program is looking to recruit businesses or nonprofits interested in employing teen workers whose wages will be paid by the city. Interested businesses are encouraged to attend a breakfast from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on April 20 at the Lyric Theatre, 300 East Third St.
This year the program is expanding from 225 to 300 teens age 14-17. The city needs additional businesses willing to host the teen employees. The program is also trying to recruit businesses from different sectors such as health care and financial services. The program runs from June 13 to July 22. Youth worker trainees will work part-time —20 hours a week — during this period and will earn $8.20 per hour.
Participating employers are not responsible for compensation.
