The Jessamine County Flag Day Celebration will be held Saturday at Camp Nelson Heritage Park. The centerpiece of the celebration is the Promise to Pledge, when businesses and individuals throughout the county pause to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Schedule includes 5K cross-country race at 8:30 a.m., recognition of 50 Stars of Jessamine County at 11 a.m., Promise to Pledge at noon, pie-tasting at 1:30 p.m., and a flag retirement ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Visit www.jessamineco.com.
PAWS calendar deadline extended
The Paris Animal Welfare Society has extended the deadline for submission of pet photos for its annual contest to Sunday.
Photos may be of any household pet or of farm animals, horses, or animals in a zoo and should be accompanied by information about the subject along with the owner's name, address, phone number and/or e-mail.

Concerts on the college carillon
Musicians from Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky will perform in the free 2008 Summer Carillon Concert Series at 7:30 p.m. Mondays at Berea College on the Draper Tower's 56-bell carillon. On July 7, John Courter of Berea College is carillonneur.
County Fair opens
The Woodford County Fair will run from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday through June 21. Kick-off is at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Woodford County Fairgrounds, Beasley Road.
