Two Boy Scouts from Kentucky recently attained Eagle Scout rank, the highest ranking given by Boy Scouts of America.
Zachary Goodpaster, 18, of Harrodsburg earned his Eagle award by leading a team of scouts and volunteers who built picnic tables for the Mercer County Extension Office in Harrodsburg, and for Shaker Village, a 3,000 acre national historic site near Pleasant Hill. Goodpaster is a member of Troop 127, sponsored by John Tzhantz. He is a freshman at Asbury College and is the son of Dannie and Beverly Goodpaster.
Ricky Eric Sizemore, 16, of Liberty earned his Eagle award by starting and leading a youth book club. He is a member of Troop 787, sponsored by the Concerned Citizens of Liberty. After graduating more than a year early from home school, Sizemore will attend Berea College in the fall. He is the son of Nathan and Amy Sizemore, and the grandson of Dan and Carol Doyle.
Fever than 5 percent of scouts attain an Eagle ranking. An Eagle Scout must have completed at least 21 merit badges and organized a service project.
