Consulate expresses gratitude
Never miss a local story.
Organizers of the Freedom Fund Festival, a yearly celebration that raises money for Jessamine countians serving in the military, recently received a letter from Jean-Baptiste Main De Boissiere, the Consulate General of France in Chicago, to express gratitude for the way the French Legion of Honor Award was bestowed upon Jesse Beazley.
In September, Beazley, 86, of Nicholasville, was awarded the medal for his actions on Omaha Beach during the D-day invasion of France in World War II. In his letter, the consulate general expressed appreciation of the award ceremony's organization and adherence to the Consulate's suggestions.
The ceremony was originally supposed to be held in Chicago, but Beazley preferred to receive the medal in his home county.
