Two requests for $750 to pay past due rent are pending, but for two different reasons.
Jennifer Hughes, a social worker with Hospice of the Bluegrass, is counseling a family of four. The husband suffers from terminal gastric cancer. The wife works full time. They have two teenage children. The husband receives disability benefits. After current bills are paid the family will use the food bank to alleviate some of the financial burden.
The second request was submitted by Mereth Birmingham, a case manager at Adult and Tenant Services. Her client is a single man who has suffered two strokes. The man worked steadily and was financially assisting his adult daughter when he had the first stroke. He recovered. He later retired and suffered a second stroke. Now, he no longer works and had no support network to help him manage his limited income. Once the past due rent is paid, a payment plan will be established with the landlord to make sure the man does not become homeless.
