The Kidney Health Alliance of Kentucky is preparing for the arrival of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games with its World of Horses art contest.
The alliance will unveil 134 8-inch wooden horses, decorated by Central Kentucky middle school and high school students, at a reception from 8 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park.
The horses' designs represent the countries and states that will participate at the Games. Shelby County High School students cut the wood for all the horses.
In July, the horses will go on display at Artique in the Civic Center Shoppes and various places downtown. They'll be displayed during the Games, Sept. 25 through Oct. 10 at the Kentucky Horse Park.
Businesses sponsored the horses for $500 each. The proceeds will help the Kidney Health Alliance assist kidney disease patients and their families, increase awareness and early detection of chronic kidney disease, and promote organ donation, said Jayna Oakley, director of development for the alliance.
