■ Air Force Airman Nicholas T. Burgel graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. He is the son of Todd and Julie Burgel of Richmond and is a 2009 graduate of Madison Central High School.
■ Air Force Airman William A. Johnson graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Johnson is a 2009 graduate of Powell County High School and is the son of Regina Shank of Clay City and Tony Johnson of Lexington.
■ Army National Guard Pvt. Joseph A. Perkins has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. He is a 2007 graduate of Paris High School and is the son of Joann Perkins of Paris.

■ Cadet Christopher Thomas Piascik graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., on May 26 with a major in legal studies. He was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force. Thomas will be assigned to Columbus Air Force Base in Mississippi, where he will begin pilot training. He is a 2006 graduate of Henry Clay High School and is the son of Michael and Peggy Piascik of Lexington.
■ Army Reserve Pfc. Guy A. Rankin IV has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. Rankin graduated in 2001 from Cardome Adult Education Center in Georgetown. He is the son of Guy and Ann Rankin of Georgetown.
■ Robert C. Morris, Navy Search and Rescue, successfully completed the Navy's water and land survival and flight safety training, and rescue swimmer training in Pensacola, Fla. Morris is continuing his two-year instruction in Class A Technical School and will next complete survival, evasion, resistance and escape, and fleet replacement squadron to complete his training. Morris is a 2008 graduate of Lafayette High School. He is the son of Bill and Becky Starr and Steve Morris of Lexington.
■ Claryssa L. Detrick has been awarded an Air Force ROTC scholarship to attend a host college or university. The majority of scholarships cover full college tuition, provide a textbook allowance, and pay most laboratory or incidental fees and a tax-free monthly allowance. Upon graduating from college and completing the ROTC program, the cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the Air Force. Detrick is a graduate of Scott County High School and is the daughter of Jill Detrick-Foster of Georgetown.
