The first case received at Lex-Care this week was submitted by Amy Wills, a social worker at Central Baptist Hospital. Her client is a single man with cerebral palsy who needs $240 to buy a new walker.
He uses a special type of walker that was recently stolen from outside his home. Neither Medicare or Medicaid will pay for this type of walker. With his limited income, he needs assistance to buy a new one.
Once the walker is replaced, he will be able to resume his normal style of living.
Delores Couch, a case manager at Adult and Tenant Services, is working with an elderly single woman who needs $250 to pay a past-due gas bill.
The woman will undergo corrective surgery soon and needs the gas reconnected so that she can have hot water to help prepare for her upcoming surgery.
Once the utility is functioning, the woman's niece will help her to cope with the surgery, her recovery and making arrangements for a new lifestyle.
