The following request for assistance was received at Lex-Care:
Shannon Gordon, a social worker at the Senior Citizens Center, is advising a widow who needs $325.38 to pay a past-due electric bill.
The widow and two other women share her home. They had been able to pay their living expenses with no difficulty until they received a bill for $700 from the electric utility. It was found that for more than six months the company had made errors in their billing because the meter at the house had either not been read or read incorrectly, which resulted in the huge bill to collect the shortage. More than half of the amount due has been paid but the widow has been warned the service may be disconnected.
Once the past due amount is paid, the household will again be financially stable.
