Former Woodford Humane Society resident Blackjack, a Shepherd mix, is now a certified therapy dog. Blackjack was returned to the humane society after his first adoption because the family developed allergies. Lexington resident Billy Fryer then adopted him. Fryer trained Blackjack, and now they visit hospitals and nursing homes to offer comfort to patients.
Church works to feed Haitians
Woodford Community Christian Church in Versailles is beginning a community-wide project called "Meals for Haiti" to feed 200,000 Haitian orphans and school children. The project involves all the churches in Woodford County, and Woodford community Christian officials hope to recruit school sports teams, civic organizations and other groups to help package the meals. Church members are working now to raise $30,000 to pay for the meals, which cost 15 cents each.
