The Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association, accompanied by residents of nearby Westgate and Urban County Councilwoman Peggy Henson, cleaned a two-mile loop of Versailles Road from Mason Headley Road to Delmont Drive. In three hours, the group collected 900 pounds of trash using safety and trash-collecting gear provided by longtime Hamilton Park residents Art and Jan Hellebusch.
In addition to the clean-up, residents inspected the area for needed repairs. They found blocked storm sewers, damaged sidewalks, a section of Wolf Creek in the Cardinal Valley area in need of a separate clean-up effort, a strong gas odor emanating from a small utility building (the odor turned out to be a gas leak that was later repaired) and a lack of garbage receptacles.
The Hamilton Park Neighborhood Association plans to continue to make the safety and beautification of the Versailles Road corridor a priority and to participate in the Great American Clean-Up this spring.
