Air Force Airman 1st Class James A. Abt has been promoted to the rank of senior airman in the U.S. Air Force.
Abt is a fire protection journeyman assigned to the 52nd Fighter Wing at Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. He has served in the military for two years.
He is the son of Elias and Laurie Abughazaleh of Lexington.

Abt is a 2008 graduate of Taylor County High in Campbellsville.
Two Marines with Security Company, Combat Logistics Regiment 15 (Forward), 1st Marine Logistics Group (Forward), were recognized for wounds suffered in combat during a ceremony at Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan on Feb. 6.
Lance Cpl. Jason C. McKnight of Lexington and Lance Cpl. Alexander H. Nauert of Crestwood were each awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds suffered during separate combat operations in 2010.
Both Marines have fully recovered from their wounds and continue to serve, conducting operations in Afghanistan's Helmand province.
The following have graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla.:
■ Army Pvt. Joshua T. Wagster is the cousin of Elizabeth Shields of Richmond.
■ Army National Guard Pvt. Christopher L. Bucher is the son of Belinda Lane of Lexington. He is a 2009 graduate of Lafayette High School.
