Ashley Demmett, a case manager at the Lexington Rescue Mission, submitted the only case received at Lex-Care this week. Her client is a married father of five. He and his wife need $441.82 to pay their water bill.
The wife is employed and the father was working two jobs. The business where he worked his second job closed down and that income was lost. At the same time, the waterline from the water company's main line to the house sprung a leak. Because the leak was on their property, the family is responsible for the repair and the water lost. The amount of the bill is more than the family can afford to pay before the cutoff date.
The man is looking for another second job, and their teen-aged children are working summer jobs. Once the bill is paid, the family will be able to manage on the income from the earnings of the father's one job, the wife's job and the children's earnings. When he finds a second job, the family will again be back in an even financial status.
