Berea's first Festival of Learnshops was held July 9-16. The event involved hundreds of people from throughout Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Texas, Alabama, Oregon and Germany to learn an art, a craft or other skill while visiting Berea. More than 70 workshops were held in studios, classrooms and other locations throughout and around Berea, with workshop topics including introduction to woodworking, flower pressing, blacksmithing, jewelry, stained glass, painting, theater, bonsai tree, storytelling, paper arts, writing and publishing children's books, corn shuck dolls and flowers, rubber stamping and culinary arts. Plans are already under way for the 2012 Festival of Learnshops, which will grow from the one-week event to two weeks, July 14-28.
