Tickets are available for the 2011 Kentucky Music Educators Association State Marching Band Championships, to be held Oct. 29 at Western Kentucky University Houchens Industries L.T. Smith Stadium.
One hundred thirty-four high school bands from 84 counties are participating in this year's events.
This is the 26th year of the marching band championships, which are the culminating performance for more than 8,500 students and their school marching bands.
It caps weeks of focused student effort to produce an artistic product that demands intellect, physical skill and artistic expression.

To qualify, bands must perform in at least two of the 52 sanctioned contests scheduled through Oct. 15 throughout the state. Each qualifying band then competes in regional quarterfinal competitions. Regional quarterfinals are held Oct. 22 in six locations — three in the eastern part of the state and three in the western part of the state. The locations are:
■ Class A East and AAAA East: Madison Southern High School, Berea
■ Classes AA and AAA East: Bourbon County High School, Paris
■ Class AAAAA East: Bryan Station High School, Lexington
■ Class A and AA West: Kentucky Wesleyan College, Owensboro
■ Class AAA West: Hart County High School, Munfordville
■ Class AAAA and AAAAA West: Hopkinsville High School, Hopkinsville
The top eight bands from each regional competition — 16 bands in each class — meet for semi-finals competition on Oct. 29 at the following locations, in Bowling Green area or surrounding counties:
■ Class A: Warren Central High School, Bowling Green
■ Class AA: Greenwood High School, Bowling Green
■ Class AAA: Allen County-Scottsville High School, Scottsville
■ Class AAAA: Barren County High School, Glasgow
■ Class AAAAA: Western Kentucky University Houchens Industries L.T. Smith Stadium, Bowling Green
The event will conclude with the naming of a state champion in each class.
Tickets for regional competitions are $10 and are sold at each event. Tickets for the semifinals are $10, and finals are $12 and $17 and are sold in advance through KMEA or at the event sites.
