■ Christi Sutherland has received a $15,000 Scholar Award from the Philanthropic Educational Organization Sisterhood. She was sponsored by the Chapter AM in Lexington. Sutherland is a senior at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. After graduation she plans to specialize in orthodontic dentistry and pursue a degree in dental education.
The P.E.O. Sisterhood is a philanthropic and educational organization interested in bringing increased opportunities for higher education to women in the United States and Canada. The Lexington Chapter AM was organized in 2008.
■ Students at Bryan Station High School have created a video that is competing to win up to $50,000 from the Glee Give a Note program tied to the Fox television show. The money from the program, which supports school music programs through total donations of $1 million, would be used to help improve the school's auditorium.
Through Nov. 7, viewers may cast a vote for Bryan Station's video at Gleegiveanote.com. Videos with the highest counts enter a judges round.
Students featured in the video include: Destinee Jones, Victoria Davis, Dorian Black, Sky VanFleet, Jasmine Hill, Bryanna Staed, Taylor Davis, Luka Vasilyuk, Olivia Keddie and Malachi Mabson. Alexie Basil filmed and edited the piece; and Logan Agee worked on sound.
Other Kentucky schools in the contest are Crossroads Elementary School in Mount Washington, Hebron Middle School in Shepherdsville, Saffell Street Elementary in Lawrenceburg, North Hardin High School in Radcliff and Lone Oak High School in Paducah.
