Requests for assistance to pay rent and a dental bill were received at Lex-Care this week.
Marla Swartz, a case manager at Emma B. Ward Elementary School in Anderson County, is counseling a divorced mother of two who needs $750 to pay her rent.
The woman has been employed for more than nine years by the board of education. She also works during summer break.
She is not receiving any alimony or child support at this time. She has taken steps to get the matter corrected and will receive child-support payments in the future. The expenses incurred during the woman's transition to become "head of the household" have caused her to fall behind on her rent.
Once the situation is stabilized, she and her children will be able to manage.
Mother needs help paying dental bill
Rhonda Barnett, a social worker at the UK Temporary Assistance Program, is working with a divorced mother who needs $750 to pay the balance on one of her children's dental bills.
The mother manages the household on the child support payments she receives. One of her children had to have impacted wisdom teeth removed recently. Insurance paid for half the bill. Co-payments for the visit were paid out of the mother's savings. She does not have the money to pay the balance. Once the bill is paid, the family will again be financially stable.
