Assistance to pay rent and utility bill are the reasons for the requests submitted to Lex-Care this week.
Beth Myers, a counselor at the Mary Todd Elementary Family Resource Center, submitted a request on behalf of a single mother of two who needs $500 to pay rent. The woman is employed as a nursing assistant at mental health center. She had to take medical leave in mid-January to have surgery. The surgical procedure requires as much as 8 months of recovery time, for which she will not be paid. Once her rent is taken care of and she returns to work full time, she will be able to manage.
Karen Thomas, a case manager at Community Action, is working with a couple who need $44.85 to pay their electric bill. Thomas has assisted them is getting help from other agencies and in finding jobs. Once the bill is paid, the couple should be able to manage on their income.
