Earl Ogata, director of corporate and foundation relations at Asbury University, has received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Medallion, given by the University of Kentucky to two graduating students and a non-student each year in recognition of dedication to community service.
In 2006, Ogata founded the International Fellowship to serve international students and young adults at UK and in Central Kentucky communities. Each month he hosts a dinner for the students in addition to helping them connect with organizations that ease their transition into American collegiate life. Ogata also has explored other cultures, working as a teacher in Hawaii, pastoring a Spanish-speaking church, and serving in the military in Korea.
He and his wife have adopted children from three countries.
