On March 22, Lt. j.g. Steve Wilson of Midway graduated from the Navy Supply Corps' basic qualification course at Officer Training Command in Newport, R.I. The 18-month program prepares officers for combat service in fleet and shore commands around the world.
The curriculum includes supply-chain management, disbursing, retail operations and food-service management. Much of the coursework, including more than 50 hours of online classes and assessments, is completed via correspondence. The in-seat part of the class also features professional leadership development and demanding physical conditioning.
The Navy's Supply Corps School is responsible for logistics training of military officers and enlisted personnel of all services, international officers and civilians employed by the Department of Defense.
Wilson enlisted in the Navy in 2002 and has served tours of duty in Iraq in 2005 and 2008. During his 2008 deployment, he received his officer's commission.
Never miss a local story.
Wilson will be promoted to lieutenant on Aug. 1 and is the leader of a Navy Civil Affairs Team based in Norfolk, Va.
