Grant aids tree-planting
The communities of Wilmore and High Bridge have been awarded a joint grant for tree planting by Kentucky Utilities for 2012. The grant was awarded through the "Plant for the Planet" project, an annual program sponsored by Kentucky Utilities and the Louisville Gas and Electric Companies. The application for the grant was a collaboration between the Wilmore Community Development Board and the High Bridge Community Association. Grant funding will be used to plant approved trees at the Wilmore Downtown Green and at the High Bridge Fire House Community Center. Priority will be given to native Kentucky trees.
The Wilmore Downtown Green, with vintage lighted walking paths, a Victorian pavilion, and stage and dance floor, is best known as the home of the Stonebridge Summer Saturday Night Concert Series, which enters its sixth season this summer. The High Bridge Fire House Community Center, formerly home to a community volunteer fire department, has been converted to a community center and is used for reunions, parties and other events.
