Rotary awards scholarships to high school seniors
Ten outstanding high school seniors from East Jessamine and West Jessamine high schools each have received $1,000 college scholarships from the Nicholasville  Rotary Club. The awards were based on the students' achievements inside and outside the classroom as well as their  embodiment of the Rotary "Service Above Self" motto. Money for the scholarships is raised through the annual pancake breakfast and member donations. The 2012 recipients are, from left, Lisa Troyer, Sarah Bradley, Dalton James, Elizabeth Burton, Allie Comley, Michael Rexroat, Beth Taylor, J.C. Carroll, Katie Cross and Katie Taylor. Dalton James also received the inaugural Joseph Carr McMurtry "Service Above Self" Award. McMurtry, a retired pharmacist and longtime Rotary member, died April 26 at the age of 89.
