Beth Ann Hamilton of Henry Clay High School and Stephanie Harvey of Paul Laurence Dunbar High School competed Aug. 24-25 in the Queen of Diamonds Showcase at Winthrop University in South Carolina. The Queen of Diamond's Showcase features the largest fast-pitch softball showcases of its kind in the United States, with athletes being selected from more than 2,000 applicants.
In addition, both players have been selected to play on the Queen of Diamonds Europe Cup team in 2013. They will play on a team representing the United States in The Cup Fast-pitch Tournament in the Netherlands in January. Players are selected for these events based on academic performance, softball ability and potential, referrals by coaches and social interactions.
Hamilton plays pitcher, shortstop and outfield for Henry Clay. Harvey plays catcher and shortstop for Dunbar. Besides their respective high school teams, both girls play on select travel teams for the Kentucky Softball Club.
