The Lone Oak Sharks Swim Team held a car wash Aug. 3 to raise funds for the purchase of new lane ropes for its pool. About $5,000 is needed to replace the existing, worn and frayed ropes. The 100-plus member team is managed and supported by volunteers and uses Nicholasville's Lone Oak pool as its home base. Kentucky Equine Humane Center receives grants
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has awarded $4,000 to the Kentucky Equine Humane Center to support veterinary care for the center's horses. This grant comes at a particularly good time, as the Center has recently taken in two horses, Joey and Jessica, who are in need of prolonged care.
In addition, the Thoroughbred Charities of America and Blue Horse Charities have awarded $5,500 and $2,100 respectively to the center to support the general care and adoption of the center's horses.
Never miss a local story.
The Kentucky Equine Humane Center, located at 1713 Catnip Hill Road in Nicholasville, provides humane treatment and shelter while working as a clearinghouse to seek adoptive homes for Kentucky's unwanted equines, regardless of breed. Horses are surrendered to the center, and the staff works with them to improve their health, train them, and then find them adoptive homes.
A public open house is held on the third Saturday of the month through October from noon until 3 p.m. For more information, call (859) 881-5849 or visit Kyehc.org.
