Lexington Center Museum and Gallery and Paul Miller Ford are collecting new teddy bears for pediatric patients and less fortunate children through Dec. 22. Donors who drop off bears at the museum or at Paul Miller Ford on New Circle Road will receive a coupon for $2 off an adult admission to Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition. The bears will be wrapped and delivered Dec. 23.
Half of the teddy bears will be delivered to pediatric patients at regional St. Joseph Hospitals who also will be treated to a reading of Polar, The Titanic Bear. The other bears will be distributed to children in Eastern Kentucky.

Morning Pointe resident and author Eugene Goss has been awarded the Vital Literary Prize by Governorslibrary.org for his book, The Wanderer: Daniel Boone's Kentucke. Goss is the third Kentuckian to win the Vital Literary Prize since 2008.
Goss is working on his third book, a fictional piece about a horse. He meets with his publisher almost daily at the senior living facility.
Grant applications for at-risk youth programs
The 2014 Partners for Youth Grassroots Allocation Grant applications will be available Friday to programs serving at-risk youth. Applications are due Jan. 31 and can be found at Partners4youth.org.

Music, light display at Fire Station 20
The Lexington Fire Department's Fire Station 20 is offering its holiday light show to passersby. Station 20 is at Harrodsburg Road and Arrowhead Drive. The light display has more than 20,000 lights. Music is transmitted via 91.1 FM. Fire Station 20 is also accepting new, unwrapped toys through Friday for the Firefighter Toy Program. Planned Parenthood names top volunteer
Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky has recognized Sadhna True of Lexington as one of its volunteers of the year. This award is given annually to those who go above and beyond to support Planned Parenthood's mission.
