Michael Sakowich, a dispatcher with Jessamine County E911, has been honored for his efforts to aid a citizen in need, using Smart911, the County's 9-1-1 service aimed at improving emergency response.
On Jan. 9, Sakowich received a cell phone call from a Nicholasville resident who feared someone was attempting to enter her home through the front door. The audio on the cell phone call was poor, and the citizen was afraid to speak too loudly and potentially alert the intruder attempting to gain entry. Sakowich had difficulty understanding the citizen's exact address but was able to view her Smart911 Safety Profile which automatically displayed with the incoming call. Using information the citizen had included in her Safety Profile, Sakowich was able to dispatch police to her home address, and also provide information on the citizen's vehicle, which was parked in the driveway to confirm that police were at the correct location.
"We implemented Smart911 in Jessamine County just over two years ago for this very reason, to save time and to provide peace of mind to our citizens," said Shelby Horn, director of Jessamine County E911.
