Archaeology project begins at Jack Jouett House
Archaeologist and Woodford County Heritage Committee member Nick Laracuente explained excavation tools at the Jack Jouett Archaeology Project kickoff on March 10 at the Jack Jouett House Historic Site. The project will provide volunteers with the opportunity to receive training, excavate at the site of Jack Jouett's 18th-century distillery, analyze artifacts, create and staff exhibits and displays, and conduct archival research. School groups will excavate on-site features, and an archaeology merit badge clinic will be offered for scouts. Volunteer registration is ongoing, and the application packet can be found Jouetthouse.org by clicking on the Learn/Archaeology/Distillery Project tabs.
