Zuri Johnson, of Frankfort, has been crowned Miss Kentucky Plus America 2014. She will compete with women from all over the United States for the title of Miss Plus America Elite in July in Atlanta.
As Miss Kentucky Plus America, Johnson will have the opportunity to further promote her platform: The Beautiful Thank You Project, a campaign against body shaming.
"Body shaming is defined as inappropriate negative statements and attitudes toward another person's weight or size. It can also reach into the discrimination against individuals who may be overweight. As a woman who has struggled with my own body issues I am passionate about encouraging women to love themselves where they are, so they can also love the woman they are becoming. When a woman loves herself and her shape, there should be no room to hate or be negative about someone else's shape," she said.
Zuri is a graduate of Kentucky State University. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications/Journalism in 2009 and completed her Master's Degree in Public Administration. She works as a training development specialist with the state of Kentucky's Transportation Cabinet.
