■ Brandon Back has graduated from the Army Air Assault School and earned the honor of wearing the Air Assault Badge. Brandon is the son of Stacie and Allen Back of Nicholasville. He is a 2014 graduate of East Jessamine High School.

■ Eric S. Mason has earned distinction as an honor graduate. Eric is the son of Debbie Baker of Hazard and Scott Mason of Winchester. The airman is a 2012 graduate of Hazard High School.
■ Taylor A. Noel is the son of Keith A. Noel of Stamping Ground and Susan L. Noel of Georgetown. He is a 2007 graduate of Scott County High School.
■ Folarin L. Akinwale is the son of Busola O. Akinwale of Lexington. He is a 2011 graduate of Starfield High School, Lagos.
The following have been commissioned as second lieutenants in the Army after successfully completing the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps program and graduating with a bachelor's degrees from University of Kentucky:
■ Amanda Gillespie is the daughter of Robert Gillespie and the stepdaughter of Phyllis Gillespie of Vine Grove and the sister of Tasha Gillespie of Radcliff and Kendra Gillespie of Vine Grove. She is a 2010 graduate of North Hardin High School, Radcliff.
■ Caleb Devires is the son of Anne and Stephen Devires of Lexington.
■ Jennifer Ward is the daughter of Kathy and Talmadge Ward of Ulysses. She is a 2010 graduate of Sheldon Clark High School, Inez.
■ Brock Slater is a 2014 graduate of Lexington Catholic High School.
■ Joshua T. Cline is the son of Karen and Charles Cline of Rineyville. He is a 2010 graduate of John Hardin High School, Radcliff.
■ Capt. Douglas Pfeifle, a Lexington native, has been named commanding officer of the Navy's Recruit Training Command, commonly referred to as boot camp or recruit training.
Pfeifle was commissioned through the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of Pennsylvania in May 1991. Prior to taking the helm at RTC, he led as commanding officer of Helicopter Sea Combat Weapons School Pacific and managed the Navy Marine Corps Flying Hour Program at the Pentagon.
