Run for Ralph & Ryan 6K is Sunday
Learn how to be a best friend to a family member or friend with dementia at a workshop from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday at Bridgepointe at Ashgrove Woods, 5220 Grey Oak Lane, Nicholasville. This workshop will teach how to relate to a person with dementia in order to improve communication, enhance quality of life, and provide a sense of comfort and security. Ralph & Ryan 6K fundraiser
The Run for Ralph & Ryan 6K will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday on Maple Street beginning at West Jessamine High School and continuing to East Jessamine High School. Check-in begins at 1 p.m. A $15 participant fee includes a T-shirt and prizes for winners. The event, now in its 6th year, pays tribute to the memory of local heroes Ryan Robinson and Ralph Sallee. Proceeds from the race provide college scholarship assistance for a West High and East High senior student athlete. Registration forms are available online at Njcpr.org. Watercolor classes at senior community
Learn and enjoy the art of watercolor painting from 10 a.m.-noon Tuesday mornings at the Wilmore Senior Community Center at Wesley Village. Beginners and experienced artists are welcome. Students become familiar with the color wheel, color theory, color mixing and the fundamentals of drawing as needed. In addition to working on still life in the studio, the class takes advantage of subjects in the natural light of the outdoor gardens when weather permits. The class is led by local artist Jennifer Bacon, a former Donovan's Scholar instructor at the University of Kentucky. Classes run through Dec. 9. There will be no class on Oct. 14. Kids' art camp in Nicholasville
The Creative Art League of Nicholasville will hold an art camp Oct. 13-17 for children ages 8-10 at the Polvino Family Art Center, 109 South Main Street. Morning sessions are 9:30-11:30 a.m. and afternoon sessions are 1:30-3:30 p.m. Each session, priced at $20, offers a different art project. Participants may register for more than one session.
