Kentucky Foxfire Festival offers family fun
Old-fashioned fun for the whole family will be available at the Kentucky Foxfire Festival from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday at Servant Heart Farm (formerly Ichthus Farm) in Wilmore.
The Moron Brothers, The Dean Osborne Band, Stone Cold Grass and Banjo Man Neal James are among the entertainers. Other activities and demonstrations include old-time sorghum making, Dutch oven cooking, cheese-making and string band jam sessions. Camping is available.

Gala promotes teaching and learning
The Jessamine County Education Foundation will hold the 2014 dinner auction gala at 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at West Jessamine High School. Proceeds will further the foundation's goal of promoting excellence in teaching and learning in Jessamine County.
The silent auction begins at 6 p.m., followed by hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., and a live auction at 8 p.m. The evening includes a performance by Dually Noted. Tickets are $50 each or $400 for a table of 8 and can be purchased online at Jessedfoundation.org or by calling (859) 885-4179, Ext. 3000.
Boo-Wow Walk for dogs and owners
The Jessamine County Public Library and the Jessamine County Animal Shelter are partnering for the fifth annual Boo-Wow Walk from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Jessamine County Animal Shelter, 120 Fairground Way.
Bring your pooch in costume for trick-or-treating and the chance to win one of three $100 pre-paid Visa cards. Animal-loving businesses and organizations will have treat stations around the shelter grounds. People treats will also be available.
Participants will have the chance to vote for their favorite costumes in small, medium and large dog categories. Winners of the costume contest will be announced at 2 p.m. Library volunteers will have shelter dogs out for their trick-or-treat time. The event is free.
