This year's Keeneland Library Lecture Series kicks off Tuesday with a presentation by Lexington-area actor and playwright Walter May, who will perform for the first time in public a one-man show he created about legendary Turf writer Joe Palmer.
May's performance is based on Palmer's book, This Was Racing, published in 1953, a year after Palmer's death at 48. The book is a collection of Palmer's columns edited and introduced by legendary sportswriter Red Smith. Among the columns are two specifically about Keeneland.
The free event begins at 6:30 p.m. in the Keeneland Library and will be followed by a reception with May.
The Keeneland Library can accessed through Gate 1 at Versailles Road and Man o' War Boulevard. On Keeneland Boulevard, take the first right, which is Entertainment Court, and head toward the Keene Barn and Entertainment Center. The library is on the left.
