■ Chester Gillespie is an Army ROTC cadet involved in Cadet Language and Cultural Immersion Training, the first training deployment as a cadet. After a weeklong training session at Fort Knox, the cadets are deployed to partner nations where they are immersed in the local cultures and languages. Gillespie deployed to Thailand. While overseas he worked with cadets from a local military academy to help improve their English. Chester is now a student at the University of Kentucky. He is a 2014 graduate of Lafayette High School.
■ Air Force Airman Stuart R. Thorburn has graduated from basic military training at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland in San Antonio, Texas. He is the son of Linda and Thomas Thorburn of Richmond, and the brother of Andrew D. Thorburn. He is a 2014 graduate of Madison Central High School.
■ David S. Campbell has accepted an appointment to the Coast Guard Academy and will participate in Report-In Day. R-Day marks the first day of the time-honored tradition of Swab Summer, a seven-week traditional military indoctrination designed to help civilian students transition into the lifestyle of Coast Guard Academy cadets. He is the son of Scott and Marva Campbell of Cleveland, Tenn., and the grandson of David and Juanita Campbell of Richmond, Va., and Phil and Sue Herald of Waco, Ky.
■ Army Spc. Lindsey C. Kelley has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C. She is the daughter of David and Janet Christofel of Wake Forest, N.C. She earned an bachelor's degree in 2012 from the University of Kentucky.
