Kathy Parker, longtime editor and general manager of The Horseman and Fair World magazine and its Web-based publications Harnessracing.com and the e-newsletter Harness Racing Weekend Preview, has been inducted into the Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame. The ceremony was July 5 in Goshen, N.Y.
Parker began working at The Horseman And Fair World, a Lexington-based trade magazine, in 1980 while attending the University of Kentucky. She was named editor and general manager in 1995.
As a writer, Parker has traveled the world to report on the sport's top events, including all major stakes races in North America, plus the Elitlopp in Sweden, Prix d'Amerique in Paris and Inter-Dominion in Sydney.
Parker is the daughter of horseman Dwane Parker, who began his career in harness racing at the Warren County Fairgrounds in Lebanon, Ohio, before moving his family to Washington, Pa., where he set up a stable at The Meadows racetrack. Kathy Parker is married to track designer and starter Dan Coon, the son of Hall of Famer Chuck Coon.
