The fifth annual Urban Educational Summit is set for 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at William Wells Brown Elementary, 555 East Fifth Street.
This free event to teach families how to engage in their children's schooling and support students' success. Workshops will include Project Aware (understanding mental health issues and responding to adolescents in crisis), knowing parents' rights, mapping a child's educational journey, decision-making in school, specializing education to meet a child's needs, making learning fun, and learning about the PTA.
In addition, a youth summit for grades 1-5 will feature a literacy program called Rap, Rhythm & Rhyme: Rebuilding the Writing Foundation. Meanwhile, students in grades 6-12 can attend And the Beat Goes On, where they will cover successful school transitions, team building, leadership, college readiness and financial aid.
