Jouett Day event is Sunday; Kids Tennis Club begins Aug. 4
The Jack Jouett House Historic Site will celebrate Matthew Harris Jouett Day with a special program, "Visions of America," at 2 p.m. Sunday in the visitor center. Museum educator Deborah Borrowdale-Cox will discuss how historic events shape us and how art defines history, by examining paintings and sculpture that present iconic versions of the past. Admission is free. The Jack Jouett House is located at 255 Craig's Creek Road, near Versailles. Kids Tennis Club begins Aug. 4
The Versailles-Woodford County Parks and Recreation Department will offer a Kids Tennis Club on Tuesday evenings in August for boys and girls ages 5 to 10. Lessons begin Aug. 4 at the Woodford County Park tennis courts (or indoors at Falling Springs Recreation Center if weather is bad). Children ages 5 to 8 will meet at 5:30 p.m., and ages 9 and 10 will meet at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $5 a child a week or $15 a child for all four weeks.
"Kids can come out on the Tuesdays that work best for them, give tennis a try and find out if it's something they enjoy," said Rainey Johns, assistant director of the Versailles-Woodford County Parks and Recreation Department. "We'll even have tennis racquets for kids to borrow if needed."
The clinic will feature the 10 & Under format which uses smaller courts, shorter racquets and balls that bounce lower. Preregistration is not required, but parents are asked to contact Johns at (859) 873-5948, Ext. 226, or at email@example.com with the names and ages of children who plan to attend along with an email address.
