Lexington firefighter Tim Boniface, 36, has been named one of 10 semifinalists in the 2015 Ultimate Men's Health Guy Search.
Following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, the former New York banker left a lucrative career and began applying for firefighting jobs across the country, including with the Lexington Fire Department. It took Boniface three attempts before he was accepted into Lexington's academy.
As he was studying to become a firefighter, Boniface learned that the number one cause of death in firefighters is cardiac arrest.
In response to that information, Boniface has taken his love for nutrition and fitness and hopes to inspire firefighters in Lexington and across the country to improve their fitness and overall health.
Soon, Men's Health magazine will cut the list of 10 finalists to three, and those men will be flown to New York. The winner will appear on the cover of the November issue of Men's Health.
Even if Boniface doesn't make the cut, he says he's OK with that, especially since he has had conversations with the CEO of Men's Health and talked to him about his platform.
"The CEO promised me he would help get the word out about firefighters and cardiac arrest, so I already feel like I'm a winner," he said.
